Alaska Day 44 - Anchorage to Homer

Russell, Caroline, Matt and Shannon are here and ready to head South for some fishing.  After picking Russell and Caroline up at their hotel it was off to the commissary for a few more groceries and another opportunity to try some fried chicken; however, this time it would be at Popeye's which was located at the commissary. After everyone had their fill of Popeye's famous chicken, it was off to the RV rental so Russell could pick up the RV he had rented.  By early afternoon we were on our way to Homer where we have a fishing charter scheduled for tomorrow.  On the way to Homer we decided to stop in Soldotna to check out the Sockeye fishing.  After an hour or so it was back on the road again with no fish. There is so much beautiful scenery between Anchorage and Homer.  Two of our favorite areas are Turnagain Arm just outside of Anchorage on the Seward highway and between Nilnichik and Homer on the Sterling highway.  There are parts of this area that overlook Cook Inlet with several large volcanoes in the background with Mt. Redoubt being the largest.  We finally got to Homer at 12:30 AM and we have to be at the boat by 6:30, it's time for bed.  We stayed at the city park on the Homer Spit for $15.00 a night with no hookups, but who cares???

Mountains and glaciers along Turnagain Arm on the Seward highway outside of Anchorage.

Planning our tactics under the bridge in Soldotna. We only had an hour or so and did not put anything in the cooler... Just wait...
