Alaska Day 40 - Palmer, AK. to Anchorage, AK

Day 40 began Sunday morning with a short trip to Anchorage from Palmer which was only about 40 miles. Once in Anchorage it was straight to Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER) where we will be until sometime Thursday.  Our friends Russell and Caroline from Brunswick County and our son, Matt and his wife, Shannon from California are flying into Anchorage Wednesday evening.  Until Wednesday, it's downtown Anchorage to the Farmers and Craft Market, The Native Heritage Center, as many restaurants as we can fit in, downtown window shopping, Ship's Creek to check the fishing and try and do some catching up on our blog.  Anyway, Sunday afternoon at the Farmers Market...

Crossing the Eagle River...  Linda thinks I need to clean the windshield!  Not only is it hard to see, it messes up her pictures...

 Approaching Anchorage

Entrance to JBER

Our home for a few days...

The Anchorage Weekend Market and Festival is open every Saturday and Sunday from May 11 to September 8.  The market is an entire block and is well attended. The weather has been super this summer as you can tell by the attire of these people. Anchorage broke a record this year for the number of consecutive days over 70.

Another picture of the market

The eggs at the market were more than twice what they were in the grocery stores

We only wish we were able to get 3 dollars for each Zucchini we could grow... The bigger the Zuke, the more it cost.  We saw some like we used to throw away that were over 4 dollars each.

I'm sure glad they reduced the price of these beans. $9.99 a pound, we thought that was a little high?

Anyone need some new ear rings?  Made from genuine moose poop...

I know by now you must be getting hungry, how about some good ole reindeer sausage or chilli?  Do you know what the difference is between a reindeer and caribou is?   This answer is a fence--- reindeer are just domesticated caribou .

The halibut is good; so is the price? You can click on the picture and read the price.

After all the shopping and eating all that wonderful food, I needed something to hold me up...

Away from the market and downtown to the visitors center...  Anchorage has flowers everywhere!

Another picture of downtown.  Notice the flowers on the poles.

Ship's Creek runs right through Anchorage.  Many people fish here for Pink and Silver Salmon.

The Bridge Restaurant is built across Ship's Creek where all the fisherman fish.  We liked the sign at the entrance...
