Alaska Day 19-25 Week 1 Camp Baldwin

Today we start a new chapter in our journey to Alaska 2013.  Four the next 3 - 4 weeks we will be serving at Camp Baldwin a camp for children and youth first grade through twelfth grade.  The camp last five weeks beginning with first through second grade and progressing each week.  Our first week began by, helping our new and dear friends Dale and Lynne Martin who serve as camp Missionaries. We helped in getting the camp ready for the first group who would arrive on Wednesday.  Building a ramp, adding a wall to separate a room into two rooms, putting the finishing touches on the new chapel, making sure the cabins were ready, painting, washing windows and many other things were on the list to finish before the opening of camp. Dale and Lynne are a true blessing to Camp Baldwin and it was a pleasure to serve along side them.  Along with the campers arriving on Wednesday, we had ten camp missionaries (college students from all over the states) and  six to seven camp mission force youth who were responsible for helping with housekeeping and kitchen duties.  Each cabin had around eight to nine campers and two camp missionaries who stayed with the campers during the week.  The camp mission force youth were mostly local high school students who helped with all types of work around the cam; washing dishes, cleaning rest rooms, mopping floors in the dinning hall, etc.  It was also a blessing to work with these youth, in fact, one of the camp missionaries was from North Myrtle Beach and was a fifth year senior at the University of south Carolina. We also had our friends, Paul and Joyce to stop by for a couple days to help us.

In these next pictures we will try and give you a tour around Camp Baldwin through some of our pictures.

These are the four cabins where the campers and their camp missionaries stay during camp.
Another view of the cabins. The inside of the cabins are painted to match the door trim.

The new chapel. We helped built the ramp, and put final touches on the chapel prior to the first group arriving
Our camper next to the dorm.  Prior to this year the right side of the dorm was the chapel.  We helped add a wall in this section to make two more rooms (cabins).  There are three rooms and bath room on the left side which is used for any staff personnel that may comes to help.
Every night this was the place to be... Large bonfire and some very inspiring devotions by Mark, who is the Camp Director and pastor of Salcha Baptist Church.
This is a very popular building... The Game Room
This is Main Street.  Our camper is on the left.  The building on the right is the Dining Hall and restroom and showers.

All these buildings were built by volunteers from all over the lower 48

John and Paul adding a wall in the old chapel building to make two new rooms (cabins).  We're sure glad Paul and Joyce decided to stop by and help.

Lynne and Dale working on the new deck.  The temperature was in the low nineties for several days in a row with the humidity hovering around 30%

The work never ends... It's 11 PM and a good time to mow the grass.
